πŸ’‍♂️ARTIFICIAL SUN CREATED BY CHINA πŸ‘ˆ

🌞ARTIFICIAL SUN MADE BY CHINA🌞

☀️China successfully powered up its “artificial sun” nuclear fusion reactor for the first time, state media reported on Friday, marking a great advance in the country's nuclear power research capabilities.

☀️China plans to complete the construction of the artificial sun this year, achieving an ion temperature of 100 million degrees Celsius, an official has said.

☀️The HL-2M Tokamak device is designed to replicate the nuclear fusion process that occurs naturally in the sun and stars to provide almost infinite clean energy through controlled nuclear fusion, which is often dubbed as the "artificial sun."

☀️Achieving an ion temperature above 100 million degrees Celsius is one of the three challenges to reach the goal of harnessing the nuclear fusion, and the core of the sun is widely believed to be 15 million degree Celsius, meaning that the ion at the device's core will be seven times higher than that of the Sun, Duan Xuru, an official of the China national nuclear corporation (CNNC) was quoted as saying by the state-run Global Times.

☀️The other two challenges are containing the fusion within a limited space in the long term, and providing a sufficiently high density profile, Science and Technology Daily reported on Monday.

☀️"The artificial sun's plasma is mainly composed of electrons and ions, and the country's existing Tokamak devices have achieved an electron temperature of over 100 million degrees Celsius in its core plasma, and an ion temperature of 50 million degrees Celsius, and it is the ion that generates energy in the device," Duan said.

☀️To bring up the ion temperature to over 100 million degree Celsius, we need higher device parameters, injects and absorbs more energy, and operates with a more advanced working mode, Duan said.

☀️The new HL-2M device will possess such capabilities, and hopefully will elevate the current device's plasma electric current level which shall greatly enhance the plasma's parameters providing a main technical support for China's participation in the experiment and operation of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER), Science and Technology Daily reported.

☀️The ITER is a large international scientific project that is a global collaboration of 35 countries, including China, Russia and the US.

☀️Magnetic confinement fusion devices—such as tokamaks—typically deposit the exhaust heat and particles from the fusion-producing core in a very narrow layer, centimeters-to-millimeters wide, which leads to very high heat and particle loads which can damage the surfaces lining the interior of the device in a reactor; the flexibility available on HL-2M will allow researchers to explore novel solutions to this problem.

☀️The first stage of HL-2M will involve testing each part of the system individually. Then, Chinese physicists will check integrated systems before beginning any experiments.

☀️HL-2M will provide researchers with valuable data on the compatibility of high-performance fusion plasmas with approaches to more effectively handle the heat and particles exhausted from the core of the device. This is one of the biggest issues facing the development of a commercial fusion reactor, and the results from HL-2M, as part of the international fusion research community, will influence the design of these reactors.

☀️At the China Fusion Energy Conference in 2019, the head of the Southwestern Institute of Physics, Duan Xuru, announced that the device would become operational in 2020. He claims the artificial sun will achieve temperatures of over 200 million degrees Celsius, which is about 13 times hotter than the sun’s core.

☀️CHINA'S ARTIFICIAL SUN can be used to provide safer fuel amid a global crisis. The power in the reactor is generated by applying powerful magnetic fields to a contained loop of hot plasma. The plasma can reach temperatures of more than 150 million centigrades.

☀️A commercial reactor would need to run for years or even decades, and Chinese researchers are trying to find a solution at the Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST) in Hefei, in the country's southeast, which was built to make the fusion reaction last several minutes or longer.
